Patterns with Maja: Confetti and Cake

Confetti Pattern |
Here are the last two patterns I did for the #patternswithmaja weekly challenge. I managed to complete all the weeks for January, hurrah! It feels pretty good being able to complete the weekly challenge for this month. It's been ages since I've been able to do it. If I can keep this up, I should have minimum 52 patterns finished by the end of this year. Fingers crossed anyhow.
I did the confetti pattern entirely in Photoshop. I wasn't particularly inspired by the theme but I decided to just push through it and make something anyway. Abstract isn't really my thing but it's worth considering given how many abstract patterns get licensed.
Despite not caring for the theme much, it turned out pretty well on the mock ups though which I am very pleased about. All the mock ups are from Freepik, got a premium membership with them. I know with AI it's possible to do your own mock ups but I still think photographed mock ups are better. AI still looks too fake, though brilliant when I need to extend a mock up for presentation.

I was more inspired by last week's theme: Cake. I mean how could I not? I love cake. I love drawing them too. So festive and yummy. I drew these with Mepxy markers on a sketchbook given to me years ago, 2002 or 2003 I think. The book is close to 20 years old! I have pads and sketchbooks that I've had for years and one of my goals this year is to not buy anymore until I've finished what I have. The thing I've figured out, and it's taken a while, doesn't really matter if I draw the motifs I do for patterns on cheaper paper or using whatever materials I've got since I scan everything and adjust in Photoshop.
I haven't used my Mepxy markers in ages and some of them have dried up and don't even work that well anymore but I think the cake slices turned out pretty good! I would love to wear it as a dress.

Other than drawing patterns, I've been working on two illustration jobs on the side of my full-time animation job at Studio Moshi. One illustration job is for education and the other are character designs for a marketing campaign. I've had more of a social life this month, caught up with quite a few friends and have gone over budget on my lucky cats. Oops! No lucky cats for me come February sadly!
