Dinosphere at Kennard and Kennard Fabrics

Woo hoo!  I have a new fabric collection released this month at KK Fabrics. I am very pleased. The patterns were done a while back and the dinosaurs where done years ago. I proposed this to KK fabrics a few years back but they already had dinosaur patterns in stock at the time.  I decided to try again this year and it got in, yay!  Sometimes it's not about the work, but the timing. Granted, I had to make a few changes to some of my designs and create an additional one but it's better than a flat out rejection.

I had to draw up some new ones to revise a pattern that KK fabrics thought was a little boring and granted, it was a bit dull compared to the others in the collection. I had fun drawing up new designs and I've been doing more realistic drawings lately so it was really nice to pivot and do more cutesy, cartoony ones. I think after I finish off another upcoming collection, I'll be drawing up more cartoon characters!

The original characters that I drew up in 2012 for a job (check out this old blog post) were all hand drawn and coloured with copic markers and then edited in Photoshop. I decided that to keep things consistent that I would do the same when I had to draw up new characters to improve an existing pattern. Photoshop has come a long way and it is quite easy to make patterns now using the pattern preview tool. I love it.

I am hoping that the fabric sells well. That would be real lovely. It's just such a good feeling when strangers buy your work because they like it and I would love to see more of my work out in the wild.
