Urban Sketching: The Convent Dayelsford

Daylesford convent by Marta Tesoro / Rabbit Town Art

I haven't done much drawing but urban sketching lately. I find it quite relaxing, not having to think and just draw what's in front of you. Not too dissimilar to drawing still-life but I am out and about when I urban sketch. Went out with a friend a few weekends ago to The Convent Dayelsford. Lovely place and I would recommend.

The Convent Daylesford

We drew outside while having our take away coffees. I didn't bring a lot of colour options with me so I finished the colouring at home. I suppose I should call my sketches partial urban sketching since the base is done on-site but then I finish the rest at home.

My friend wanted to draw landscape whereas I was keen to draw the building. It was a beautiful day to be outside and the staff at the convent where kind enough to recommend this place.

I think I would like to try my hand at landscape drawings but I prefer painting at home rather than outdoors. Buildings on the other hand, I like drawing them. I've drawn quite a few places that don't exist anymore and buildings that have changed over the years so it's like a time capsule in sketch form, really.

I would love to draw more exteriors. Daylesford is a lovely little town and I do recommend visiting it.
