Book Illustration: a before and after

Hi!  Here's a cropped image of one of the book pages I was working on.  I thought I'd show a before and after this time.  The first one had me cleaning up the rough traditionally with a brush pen.  The second one is a cropped image of the final look which was coloured digitally.  Where is this book job at...am two pages away from completing this project.  I actually submitted all the pages to the client tonight.  I just need to finish the character page and the glossary and am home free!

I spent most of today animating though...a walk cycle and a character riding a bicycle.  It's pretty tiring.  The designer and illustrator part of me loves details on characters.  Like pockets, trench coats, patterned shirt but the animator that I am, hates that.  It means a lot more fiddly work and bigger chances for mistake on my part.

I have some pretty big deadlines to make next week and this book, the animation job and one more illustration job will and has been taking a lot of time.  I am confident I can get it done though!.  Well, fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong before then.  As it is, I had internet and computer issues only a few days ago.  Nothing to stop me working and my partner fixed up my tower that it's now running better than ever.

For some fun news, I am now watching an anime (while working) called "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma".  It's hilarious, silly and a bit of fun.  I love the creativity of the Japanese that they can turn any subject into an anime/comic.  Anyway, am enjoying it and I like the main character too.  Very rarely when the main is my fave character.

I just submitted a large amount of work tonight so I am actualy able to write something decent for a change.  Am planning to sleep shortly too.  I need a re-charge.

Some journal entries!

Hi, hi!

How are things going?  Thought I would touch base.  My first week and a bit at work has been quite full on.  Lots of work to do for now.....will see how that goes.  Rob and I went to Sushi Jiro at the QV last weekend for some delicious sushi train.  We love sushi train.  I especially wanted to draw the scampi nigiri and the spicy salmon nigiri.

I also drew my fatty boombah kitty, Hanzo.  He is on a diet...but it's going to take time to lose weight, so he's still fat.  I need to lose weight too.  I really need to lessen my sugar and certainly exercise more.

Working on some test animations tomorrow.  Should be good fun!

Hello! Hello!  Some news!  I was on TV a few weeks back, April 07 to be precise, to represent Moshi with Christien Clegg and Dale Andreson for Space Chickens!  It was really good fun.  The hosts Lauren and Andy were super nice.  I was quite nervous, there wasn't a lot of warm up before filming and it was all very spontaneous.  We were advised to just run with any mistakes made. smile and just have a lot of energy!

Dale and I had a couple of draw offs while Christien refereed and described Space Chickens and  animation.  There were some really weird topics that we had to draw for the last segment, I had to draw a chicken doing taxes on the sun (with Andy) and a Pelican doing the lambada on a shooting star. We only had a minute each for each drawing.  It was crazy to say the least.  I did enjoy myself though.

The pictures below were taken by our Producer that accompanied us to the shoot!

In the first drawing,, where we had to draw the chickens, I was like grabbing colors to color m…

"Peggy was so surprised when she discovered that........"

This is my submission for Illustration Friday: Mail.  Thought I would leave it open ended for everyone else to fill in the blanks.

I haven't been able to submit for two weeks because of freelance work and it feels so nice to have something up for this week.  I am still on fashion illustration mode and enjoying it a lot.  Done in Flash and tweaked in Photoshop.
