Drawing Request 04: An episode of 'So you think you can dance' where the judges are being harsh at the performance of a giant T-Rex who is (rather than getting angry) is trying to hold back the tears of the public humiliation. Oh I'm sure he's wearing some kind of costume.
Howdy!
Here is drawing request 04 for Tim Merks. I think I fulfilled the brief...judges, T-rex holding back tears in costume and a hint of the "So you think you can dance" logo. Gah! Drawing dinosaurs are hard... struggled with this one and had to look up a lot of references to get it to a stage I was happy with. For people who dont know what these requests are about please read this post.
This was drawn up and coloured in Flash then brought into Photoshop for texturing and colour adjustments. I have started to time how long it takes me to draw up these pieces from rough sketch to final product. This I started at 8:30 PM till 2:00 AM last night. Not a bad effort I don't think! When I have something I get stuck with, I think on it and try to come up with ideas for a day or two then doodle out the best thing that has popped in my head and take it from there.
It's Friday! Yay! Not that it means anything to a freelancer since I technically don't have a weekend as I still tend to do some work and also because I have been working from home for almost 6 months now. I miss being at a studio and interacting and having fun with people. Thank God for Gmail and facebook chat or I could possibly go for days without any human contact. I keep myself from getting crazy by going to the gym in the afternoons to get me out of the house and to break up the day. That said, I do like sleeping in.
Hope everyone has a weekend of awesomeness!
i love your dinosaur
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job! The trick to this drawing was always going to be with balance. With the extreme different sizes between the characters how can you show the expressions in a nice image?
ReplyDeleteI gave Ben a similar challenge.
Yay! SYTYCD season 8 starts next week, Wooh! and I love your picture! those judges actually look like Nigel, Mary Murphy and Mia, good job! And I know exactly what you mean about having no weekend when freelance/working from home. I excessively get stir crazy, I think cabin fever is my normal state now.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha! THIS is awesomeness! Love his wee little arms! Man oh man, you are goooooooood.
ReplyDeleteHeh, I love this one, brilliant interpretation :)
ReplyDeleteWeekend was awesome indeed but just a little too short for my liking, it's time for the world to accepts that Monday's should be part of the weekend, don't you think? :D
