Blue Jays and Skull

Image
Hi!  It's been a month since I wrote, whoops!  Things have been really busy, as per normal.  So  the Blue Jay skull above was the last illustration I managed to finish, for myself , before things got crazy.  I've been working on back to back contracts.  A Chobani commercial, which I will post up on my next blog post, a commission for Fuzzy Pudgies, I am currently finishing my contract as an animator for Smiling Friends this week and then am starting on another contract at Studio Moshi for Solar Oppostites and on top of ALL these jobs I've been doing illustration jobs after hours and on weekends.  It's quite nuts!  I will hopefully be able to post more and show the work I've done.  There's a lot of content I could put up and just not enough time or inspiration to do it. Drawing above was done with copic markers.  I am so close to completing my copic collection.  Very excited. For other news, Victoria, Australia is back in lockdown.  Thanks a lot NSW for not con

Beechworth Day trip in Regional Victoria

Image
Hi!  So earlier this month, Rob and I went to Beechworth!  Got to say, I would totally recommend this as a lovely stop over.  We arrived early afternoon, around lunch time and stayed one night. We went and had lunch at the Bridge Road Brewery after checking into our hotel.  I had a delicious apple and blue cheese/gorgonzola pizza and I would definitely recommend.  The "Beer that taste like ice cream" was super yum too. We had dinner at the Ox and Hound .  It was delicious, I had a rabbit pasta which was super nice.  Service was great too.  Though, the place can get a bit cold at the back room, dress warmly in winter, i would say. The next morning we had breakfast at the Moments and Memories Tea room.  Oh, I really liked this place.  I think my mom would love it too.  Tea cups and post of the owner's own personal collection and stuff for sale too.  I can recommend the breakfast pancake. After that, we checked out the Beechworth Sweet Co.  It's like walking into Willy W

Some roughs for a current job and update

Aaaaaah!  Thank goodness we've been set free in Regional Victoria.  More or less.  There are some advantages moving to the country.  Metro Melbourne is still unfortunately in lockdown which is a major shame, I can't see my family or my friends.  Hopefully I can see them in a few weeks.  If it wasn't for Rob and Hanzo, the country and working from home would be very lonely. This week has been busy working on a new commercial, the illustrations for work above and another book illustration job over the last few days and today.  Gosh, so dull.  I work, I train with Justin and do some house chores and hang out with my boys pretty much on a daily basis.  I draw both for fun and for work.  Even now am thinking of colouring in one of my old pieces after a day of animating and illustrating.  I feel like I should do something about that.  Anyway, am going to relax now, have some dinner and do the dishes!  Maybe read some comics to relax tonight too.

Wonderful Wings: Galahs and daily diary

Image
Hallo, hallo!  Another busy day.  The image above was one of my designs for Wonderful Wings  . This is part of the image before I turned it into a pattern.   I do love Australian birds.  I do love all birds actually.  Anyway this was hand drawn, scanned into Adobe Photoshop and coloured and edited in there.  Buying this on a dress, shirt and other products can be bought on my Redbubble Shop. I am thinking of making more bird patterns once I get a chance!  I've been really busy. Today, I trained in the morning, then was working on a book job and at lunch time I was in a zoom meeting for another commercial job, which worked on till I got a rough done, then I finished off the book job I was working on, afterwards it was cooking dinner and then spending the rest of the night playing movies in the background while working on another illustration job.  It was a busy day and tomorrow will be another busy day.  Most likely working on the new commercial job I got today and the current ill

Birthday in Lockdown

Image
Birthday drawing, hand drawn and coloured with copics Ah dear.  I had all these awesome plans for the weekend past but alas, Victoria Australia is back into lockdown.  Again.  It is very frustrating and surely there must be a better way rather than locking down the State as soon as the virus makes it's appearance.  We sadly have to live with this for a very, very long time and we can't just keep locking down the minute someone has a sniffle (yes, am downplaying it by a lot.  Anyway, am annoyed to say the least, but I know that for me it is just an inconvenience and I am ranting out of frustration more than anything else.  There are plenty out there that have funerals with limitations, Weddings that had to cancel, operations scheduled, jobs lost and who are in a far worse situation than myself. I turned 41, a few days ago. Since I (and a couple of million people) were in lockdown, there wasn't much else to do but take stock (and draw) of what I've been doing with my li

Fuzzy Pudgies: Yokai Monster Occult Cats and update

Image
Hi!  It's been a while, since Easter really, since I last wrote.  April was really busy.  I was working a few jobs and painting cats where I had free time.  It was all about yokai/demon cats in April.  I finished the last batch yesterday.  I will be working on a new batch this month, hopefully get some done for Mother's Day and this month is quite eventful with dinners, catch ups, work and birthdays!  I managed to prep a batch this weekend for painting. Chopstick holders are the best for placing paint brushes in use, I think.   I've also been working at a studio part-time.  The project is wrapping up soon, though I may still be called upon, when needed.  Here I am at the studio! A bit grumpy since it's so early in the morning.  Working on a commercial.  It's a proper campaign and am not sure when it will be on TV. Aside from working and painting cats, I've upped my game in collecting Maneki Nekos.  There are certain brands and types that are pricey. They make

Happy Easter 2021! Fuzzy Pudgies, Beechworth and general stuff.

HAPPY EASTER!!!!  Hope you all ha d a lovely break, whether you celebrate it or not.  These are my Easter cats for Fuzzy Pudgies!  I think they look pretty cute! Here are some of the sketches I did prior to painting.  I worked on them during breakfast and before going into my current studio.  I've been working on a commercial for the last week, but I arrived really early.  I have a key now, so I can go into the studio and work but beforehand, i sat in a cafe and worked on Fuzzy Pudgies. This was at  Bakemono Bakery .  Their baked goods are delicious, especially the Yuzu croissant.  The one in the picture is a garlic bread that is one of their best sellers.  It was all right.....I think the combination of sweet and garlic was a bit too odd for my tastes.  I look forward to trying their "shokupan" though.  That said, no days off to the city for me for all of April, not until my current studio job is finished so I won't be able to go back to this particular bakery for

Life and Lucky Cat purchases and dreams

Image
Hi all!  My, it's been a busy month and now it's the end of March.  The year is flying!  I am pretty busy with freelance right now, the ones above are a couple of patterns I submitted and got approved.  Hopefully we'll see it on fabric at some point.  I am currently working on a few books and a commercial job and painting cats when I can.  I wish I could say more about my actual jobs but alas, until it's been released, I can't I am also in the mood to collect Lucky Cats.  I prefer ceramic figures best.  I found a shop in Northcote with quite a few I would like to buy and one in Sydney.  I can't go to Japan right now, but it's still nice to get made in japan stuff....like the cats.  That said, it doesn't necessarily have to made in japan.  If the design is nice, am going for it!  Here are my latest acquisitions. Aren't they adorable?!?!?  I do have my sights on more expensive and more artisan made Lucky Cats now though.  The cats make me happy.  I li

Fuzzy Pudgies: hand made pin backing

Image
Hi, hi!  How have things been?  I've actually managed to create hand made backings for all the brooches I have available to sell for Fuzzy Pudgies .  I just need to make a shop now....but easier said than done.  I have quite a bit of freelance to do and am trying make new brooches on top of that.  It's a bit mental right now, admittedly.  Everything just takes so much time. I am enjoying painting the pins though.  We'd probably make more money and sell more if they weren't all one off designs but I like having each one be special.  Ah well.  Maybe I'll do some mass produced ones and sell via my Rabbit Town account....when I get some time.  I have so many projects I want to do and things I need to study but am just always busy!  I am enjoying life though, so that's a plus. Here's a work in progress pic of trying to cut up the pin backing: Well, that's all for now!

Fuzzy Pudgies: Cat Portraits to Date and life

Image
Myra, Marble and Dax Mish, Charlie and Isis Hanzo, Ping and Coco   Oscar, Dr. Pixel and Mr Quest Hallo, hallo!  Oh wow, the first week of March is gone already!  Where is the time going?  We're already 3 months into 2021.  Well, I thought I'd put up all the kitty portraits I've done to date!  A combination of commissions, gifts and trades!  My workload has gotten a bit heavy now with freelance so  I haven't been as active with promoting my pet portrait service.  I am still taking commissions however.  The next batch of cat portraits will be for the "real looking cat series" for Fuzzy Pudgies  . It'll be fun to draw up different cat breeds, I think! I had fun with all the portraits and am pleased with how they all turned out.  I had a few disasters where the paint actually curdled during the glossing process and I had to re-paint it all over again and we had one get damaged in transit so I had to re-paint from scratch and Rob drove me to the address (luckil
