Urban Sketching : Donkey Kyneton
The weekend was spent chilling out with my partner at Donkeys! I urban sketched for the first time since 2017 and I really enjoyed it. We were at Donkey's for hours. Not just because I was drawing but we had lunch there, I do love and recommend the fried chicken and they were serving mulled wine which is one of my favourite beverages to have during winter and I could not pass it up.
It's such a good vibe at Donkey's. The owner Mark is great! So accommodating and friendly, very nice to chat to. My partner and I even got chatting with the real estate couple that was sitting next to us. I ended up drawing them in the sketch too. We rarely get the counter seats and I think it's a good spot to chat to strangers and everyone that day was really friendly so we had fun getting to know the people around us a little bit.
Urban sketching inside a restaurant is quite different from just drawing a building. People flit in and out of your sketch, plates and decorations move and the perspective changes depending how am sitting or how many mulled wines I've had. Originally there weren't any people in my pencil sketch but then I decided to add Mark and the people on the counter. Perspective isn't quite right but I think it makes the sketch more lively and interesting. Sometimes the charm of the work is simply committing to the mistakes.
